The obvious plus of joining AMEK is to network, its memberships can provide more opportunities and diverse ways to grow your career. Whether that’s helping you to get a new job, scoring an interview or introducing you to the right people in your journey to success, networking is pivotal in career progression. AMEK also hold workshops and events around workplace issues, skills building and career advancement. Participating in forums, chat groups or discussion boards sponsored by the association is also a great way to grow your network. This allows you to use your peers as sounding boards and often make some great friends with the same interests as you. This helps to make networking a constant part of your routine instead of something to do when you’re just looking for a new job.
2. Support
For most people, creating professional relationships is important, and joining AMEK allows you to have a sense of security and trust knowing that someone has your back is always comforting. Now imagine there are hundreds or thousands of people standing behind you. Whether it’s through mentors, work groups or plain old conversations with alumni/ peers , there’s always someone to share your challenges and ideas with who can also offer advice and feedback on ideas based on their own experiences. We even intend to have mentoring programs that pair new and experienced colleagues together.

Like any group, membership has its privileges. AMEK coordinates annual and bi-annual conferences, sponsor workshops, trainings and forums to address issues that Biomedical Engineering Professionals face in their individual places of work. There are also the educational and professional development opportunities that are exclusive for members like becoming active on a committee or take a prominent leadership role. And don’t forget, listing your AMEK membership on your CV is impressive to current or future employers as it shows that you are dedicated to staying connected in your profession.
4. Giving Back
Aside from providing benefits to its members, giving back can be the greatest reward and benefit, AMEK also conducts activities that serve communities through public service.
5. Influence in Your Work place
Many of our work places may have less superior methods of work, and so you can be instrumental in improving conditions there, after learning “best practices” or new ideas at AMEK functions. You’ll never know how much impact or how valuable your AMEK experience is if you don’t get the opportunity to share it with others.
6. Advocacy
AMEK is critical for generating the energy, flow of ideas, and proactive work needed to maintain a healthy profession as outlined in the Professions Code of Ethics that advocates for the needs of its members and the trust of society, participating with other societies and organizations in Health policy initiatives and also contribute to the accountability and voice of the profession to society.
7. News Publications
The association is a central source for news of interest and value to members, the profession and the general public. It provides forum for disseminating and discussing news, education, new regulations and standards, and new techniques and practices in healthcare. AMEK intends to have job listings online on our website. This is a great way to find targeted job postings for your interest.
8. To have fun together
All work and no play… People enjoy a good laugh, a good joke, time to relax and play games, time to share a meal together. Certainly AMEK has to strike a balance, and most of the meetings and discussions will be about professional things. But there is definitely a time and a place to have fun too.
